Shakira has thanked fans for their support in an emotional message after she was forced to cancel a tour show in Peru due to being taken to hospital.

The Hips Don’t Lie hitmaker, 48, is currently on her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour but was forced to pull out of a show in Lima, Peru on Sunday after suffering with abdominal pain.

In a follow-up message posted in the early hours of Monday morning, she wrote in her Instagram stories: ‘Thank you all for your loving messages. You give me so much strength!! I love you with all my heart.’

In her earlier message, Shakira explained how she was in hospital and apologised for the cancelled show.

‘The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening,’ she said.

‘I am very sad to not be able to take to the stage today, I’ve been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans in Peru.

‘I hope to be released and well tomorrow so I’m able to perform. My team and the promoters are already working on a new date to communicate to you.

‘Thank you all for your understanding, I love you all. Shak.’

Shakira has another date in Lima tonight before heading to Colombia for a series of shows until the end of February.

In September, the music artist raised concern among fans when she abruptly left the stage at LIV Miami after a strange interaction with an audience member.

But a source clarified to Metro that nothing dramatic had taken place, she had simply ‘realised she shouldn’t stand there and so moved – no big deal – she had an amazing day and so much fun with the video.’

Earlier this month, Shakira won the Grammy award for best Latin pop album for Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.

In her acceptance speech, she said: ‘I want to dedicate this award to all my immigrant brothers and sisters. In this country, you’re loved, you’re worth it, and I will always fight with you.

‘And to all of those women who work really hard every day to provide for their families, you are the true she-wolves, so this is for you, too.

‘I want to share this award with my kids, Milan and Sasha, who are here with me. I’m so proud of you guys of your kind hearts. Thank you so much for supporting me the way you do. I love you. Thank you.’
