Gwyneth Paltrow admitted to turning to alcohol following the devastating Los Angeles wildfires that took place at the beginning of the year.

Almost 180,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes as six fires raged throughout the city after the original blaze began in the Pacific Palisades on January 7.

Ten people are believed to have died as a result of the fires and at least 10,000 buildings have been destroyed, including the homes of several Hollywood stars.

The Talented Mr. Ripley actress, 52, explained that her menopause symptoms worsened due to ‘drinking every night.’

‘I’m really in the thick of it right now, so I’m all over the place,’ she said during Tuesday’s episode of her Goop podcast.

She continued: ‘But I noticed my symptoms are, like, pretty well under control unless, you know, in January when the fires were happening in L.A. I’ve, like, used alcohol for its purpose.’

‘Normally, now at this point, I don’t drink a lot at all. Maybe I’ll have one drink a week,’ Gwyneth – who shares two children with Coldplay lead vocalist Chris Martin – added, but explained her symptoms ‘were completely out of control. It was the first time I really noticed, like, causation in that way.’

Although the Glee actress’ home – which she shared with husband Brad Falchuck — remained safe, she took to social media in January to express her condolences to those who lost their homes.

‘Our beloved Los Angeles… We are in deep grief for so many of our close friends who have lost everything,’ she shared on Instagram at the time.

‘Thank you to those inquiring, we are currently safe.’

She continued: ‘When the fires are out there will be more to say and everything to do. The city of angels will need angels of all kinds. Please everyone, stay safe and vigilant.’

Businesswoman Gwyneth has made headlines in the past for her fairly ‘out there’ approach to life – including selling a vibrator for £12,000.

And at the beginning of last year she explained her resolution for January was to cut alcohol.

The star was asked about her ‘ins and outs’ for 2024 while on the red carpet for Netflix film The Brother’s Sun, co-created by husband Brad – and she had her answers ready.

For her 2024 ‘ins,’ Gwyneth declared: ‘Peace, understanding, rest and more alcohol.’

As for her ‘outs,’ she told People: ‘Out would be abject righteousness, not wanting to understand other people’s points of view and really big shoulder pads.’
